Acer is indeed in no mood to abandon netbooks as yet as recently they have launched the 24mm thick Acer Aspire One E100 which is loaded with few new and many standardized features. In addition to the typical netbook features like 10.1 inch screen, 1024 x 600 pixel resolution and Atom processor, the “aha!” feature of this netbook that makes it unique is the dual booting compatibility. With Acer Aspire One E100 you get the choice of either booting Windows 7 or Google Android. It also comes up with the 8 hours long battery life and that we all know is quite impressive for the price!

Targeting specifically the students, this netbook comes with rubber coating for bump protection. The netbook also has a special slot for the student name card. All in all, Acer Aspire One E100 seems to be a good buy for young people.

Toshiba never likes to stay behind while others are showing off their new gadgets at the CES 2011, thus we shouldn’t be surprised to see the NB505.

However, what was surprising about this 2.9 netbook was that it offered Toshiba’s new rubberized EasyGrip Finish on the cover, numerous colour options, baseline specs (Windows 7 OS, 10-inch display, 250GB hard drive, 1GB RAM and an Atom processor) for a very affordable price – £192.60! Over the years, Toshiba has always offered it good netbooks for more, which is why this comes as a pleasant surprise. Let’s just hope that the netbook finds its way here quickly.

With Samsung’s name slowly rising in the tablet makers’ list, the company comes to venture into a new territory – the hybrids. Samsung exhibited the prototype of a sliding PC which combined a tablet and netbook into one.

The Samsung device looks like a tablet and even comes with a touch-enabled LED screen, but since a QWERTY keyboard slides from the bottom, it looks just like a netbook. This offers people who require word processers with an ideal setup. In fact, this is what Samsung aims at since the device is expected to come with a Windows 7 operating system and its office suite. Though this is just a prototype, everyone’s abuzz with expectation and competitors are heading back to their drawing boards.

Asus has come up with the new Eee PC 1018 that is a dream come true for all netbook enthusiasts. It is a sleek and elegantly designed thin netbook which has a completely flat lid. Asus has luckily kept their standard Eee PC keyboard which makes typing much easier. However, the smaller right-side Shift key is difficult to use if you’re used to a larger Shift key.

The touch pad offered in the Eee PC 1018 has improved greatly as compared to the previous versions of Eee PC touch pads. Not only is it bigger, but it has a specific scroll zone along the right corner. The 10.1 inch display has a 1,024×600-pixel native resolution which is the same as previous versions of Eee PCs, so no new developments in that area.

Overall, the new Eee PC is a great buy for anyone who wants to upgrade from their old netbook.

Forget about bulky laptops and smaller netbooks, because the latest trend these days is the Mini! Dell has finally unveiled its newest creation: the Mini 1018. This new version deals with some of the design and specification problems that Dell’s previous mini netbook (Mini 1012) had.
