The application Skype 2.0 is already available for downloading in the App Store.

For a long time Skype for iPhone and other smartphones didn’t allow making calls using Mobile Internet. One could use the application for voice transmitting only in the places where the phone receives Wi-Fi. Now calls can be made from any place where the 3G network is available and by those who have installed the 3rd or the latest version of iPhone OS into their mobile devices.

According to the official announcement, calls between Skype users via 3G in the USA where AT&T is an exclusive operator of iPhone will be free of charge till August 2010. Upon the expiry of this period, a monthly fee will be introduced for them. Calls via Wi-Fi will remain free.

Speaking at the conference ‘Google Zeitgeist’ in Hertfordshire Johnson stated that access points will be deployed at every lamp post and at every bus stop.

He also said that it’s only the beginning and in plans the city council is going to turn London into the technological capital of the world. He said Berners-Lee, the inventor of the Internet, was born in London that’s why «we claim paternity of the internet». He also declared that London is home for technological innovations and added that Wi-Fi London is one of the most important of all current projects.

This innovation will let people use the Internet freely not only at home but in the street as well.

Let’s consider those of them, which can be controlled and adjusted by the users themselves. So, the Internet speed depends on:

your tariff plan;

various viruses and other similar programs, as well as applications filtering traffic;

settings of your operating system and hardware (does your hardware work in a proper way? )

settings of your network card driver;

external network equipment (router, etc.);

the type of your connection (wireless Internet (Wi-Fi) or wired internet access);

quality of the “last mile” access.

So check these points trying to speed up your uploads and downloads from the Internet.

So far, users on Japan’s bullet trains access the Internet by connecting their laptops via mobile phones, but connection speeds are said to be slow. Soon passengers will be able to go online via Wi-Fi, thanks to Japan Telecom launching the infrastructure. You get a minimum speed of 2Mbps when the trains run at full speed or through tunnel.
